Day Two: Crazy Meditation Insight #2

Natalie’s second guided meditation towards the end of the second day is the one that really got me.

For some context, I will say I was trying to pay better attention to the Upanishads lesson of the day than I had the day before. One of the things I picked up on was a similarity to Vipassana meditation that I (sometimes) practice, in that one of the ways to find stability within is to put yourself in uncomfortable situations that “stir up heat,” such as meditation, fasting, or silence.

To become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Anyhow, later that day, we did a chakra meditation. I’ve heard a bit about the chakras before, but this was the first time I really connected the concept to my body. Natalie has us do a scan, beginning with the root chakra, in the groin.

We imagined energy spinning in a clockwise motion, at the base of the spine toward the head. We began at the root, imagined the colored associated with the chakra, and let it spin and heat in our bodies. She guided us through the seven chakras:

  1. Root Chakra: Red Root Chakra
  2. Sacral Chakra: OrangeSacral Chakra
  3. Naval Chakra: YellowNaval Chakra
  4. Heart Chakra: GreenHeartChakra
  5. Throat Chakra: Blueblue-throat-chakra-symbol-image
  6. Third Eye: IndigoThird Eye
  7. Crown Chakra: VioletCrownShakra

Once we were done, she asked us to return to the third eye and place some pressure on it with our fingers. She instructed us to ask our own intuition a question we have been wanting an answer to, and accept the first reply that we receive as an answer. Without any time to think, I asked my third eye:

How can I be free from the pain I feel? […over a long-standing grief in my life that I don’t want to go into here…]

And the immediate reply?

Absorb it.

That was it. And it made sense. And I felt flooded with relief. Not relief from the pain, but relief from the striving to be free from the pain.
